Helping Patients Achieve Healthy, Functional & Beautiful Smiles
Teeth Extractions
When a tooth has experienced trauma or severe decay, an extraction may be necessary. An extraction allows us to replace the tooth, eliminating the pain, discomfort and decreased function of a severely broken or decayed tooth.
Following the extraction, we will discuss your tooth-replacement options. Options include dentures, a bridge, or a dental implant. Without a tooth replacement, you have increased risk of gum and jaw bone damage, as well as shifting of the rest of the teeth. Dr. Coyne can work with you to determine which replacement option is best for your needs.
Wisdom Teeth Extractions/Removal
Wisdom teeth extractions are a common and often necessary procedure for teens and young adults when third molars become impacted or fail to emerge properly. Impacted wisdom teeth can cause pain, infection, crowding, and damage to surrounding teeth if left untreated. At Southeastern Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, we specialize in safe, effective wisdom teeth removal using advanced surgical techniques designed to protect your oral health and promote long-term comfort. Understanding when wisdom teeth extractions are recommended and what to expect from the removal process can help you feel confident in your care and prepared for a smooth recovery.
During a wisdom teeth removal, you will receive a local anesthetic to numb the extraction site. More nervous patients can receive general anesthesia as well. Because of the location of the wisdom teeth, they are not necessary for a functional smile, and therefore they don’t need to be replaced.
Anesthesia Administration
As a part of our mission to help our patients have the most comfortable experience possible while in our care, we offer a variety of anesthesia options, including:
• Local anesthesia to numb the procedure site
• General anesthesia through an IV so patients can sleep through the procedure
• IV sedation, which allows patients to deeply relax but not fall asleep during the procedure
• Inhalation anesthesia, often used for children. Children breathe in a mixture of anesthetic gases and oxygen. Then, an IV is inserted to provide further sedation or general anesthesia.
• Hospital-based anesthesia, used for patients with certain medical diseases or special needs, or for very young children. Dr. Coyne treats patients using general anesthesia at Brockton Hospital.
Other services we offer include:
• Oral Pathology
• Bone Grafting
• Impacted Canines
• TMJ
• Sleep Apnea
• Cyst and Tumor Removal
• Oral Surgery for those with Special Needs
• And more
